Name: Shougo MakishimaAdditional information:
Age: 27
Aged Up?: Nope
Canon: PSYCHO-PASS
Brief In-Game History:
Born and raised in Japan, Shougo grew up as an only child. His father was an English professor, his mother a government worker who was rarely home. Because of his father's influence, he was instilled with a love of books and developed an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He read every novel in his father's extensive library, finding an appreciation in the old world medium of the printed word that modern technology simply didn't possess.
When he was five, he entered his first year of school already well ahead of his class in literacy. This, predictably, ostracised him from everyone else, but far from feeling lonely, Shougo easily found comfort in the myriad of worlds created in the books he read. He didn't always understand the themes in them (not until he was older) yet they were that compelling that he felt no need to seek out further company until he was well into high school. It would come as a severe disappointment to Shougo that there was no-one around to share and discuss his thoughts with. Anyone he tried to speak to felt intimidated by his knowledge and enthusiasm. The result was that he became withdrawn and known as 'that boy who sat in the corner with his nose buried in a book'.
When he graduated from high school, he headed to university to pursue a course in philosophy and science. His life until now had followed a fairly normal if lonely course, though he managed to sustain the occasional, temporary relationship during his study. Those were little more than experiments though: him testing the waters and playing with the human emotion called 'love'. He wasn't such an idiot as to let them die with a bang though - he made sure to break ties in a way that made him forgettable, and thusly he began building his mental library of the human psyche.
He wouldn't make his first foray into darker dealings until he was twenty-five. In his final year of study, the yakuza had a loud, brazen turf war near campus. Some students died as they headed home or to class, forcing the university to close its doors until the matter was sorted out; Shougo observed the conflict from afar, noting especially the superhuman antics of a certain few, and later followed the losing side to their hide-out.
The oyabun had initially been surprised and hostile towards the young-looking male who had followed his small group all the way to their hideout. Even when Shougo had explained his interest in the special perforare wielders, they had handled him roughly, keeping him under watch for a few days until he finally convinced them that his skills as a scientist could help them.
Shougo spent every night that he could in secret, experimenting in the university's laboraties with chemicals derived from the special bullets that the small yakuza group had somehow gotten a hold of. Inquiries had told him that the special powers that certain members of the group were able to summon were thanks to these bullets, yet those individuals seemed quite unwilling to speak about how exactly it worked. They were even unwilling to let him experiment with the bullets to begin with, as there was a limited supply and they were expensive to have made (they came from overseas, one of them let slip; Shougo didn't enquire further, not wanting to be seen as too prying on his first day). But after some persuasion, he managed to obtain one of the precious bullets and analysed the components of the fluid inside. As promised, he managed to replicate the chemical compound, and after a few weeks produced several new bullets for the yakuza group to test.
The next night, the winning family were unexpectedly massacred in their headquarters - every single one of them.
Naturally this made national news, and the situation was complicated further by the fact that the other family - the one Shougo had approached - also dissolved in spectacular, bloody fashion. In their case, in-fighting was cited as the cause on the official report, and the matter closed, but no-one could ever figure out how so many men could be killed in the space of one night. But Shougo had secretly mixed an additional chemical into the bullets he had created, and he smiled in pleasure at his handiwork when he heard the news the next morning. The chemistry department would later discover that they had run low on certain types of chemicals and suspect some students had set up a drug ring at the university (they had, incidentally, but that is another matter altogether), but Shougo himself was never implicated.
Upon completing his degree, he vanished from public record. His parents are listed as deceased, though you won't find a grave with their names; he can't be found on any employee list in the country, nor is he listed as a citizen. He's around, though. In Italy they say there's a white-haired man, young despite appearances. A brilliant scientist with quite the lovely smile and friendly manner, with connections to the Mendolia. If he has a name then no-one knows it: they simply call him the Listener, because he is always there to lend a sympathetic ear to the screams of his experimental subjects as he pushes and tests their mental and physical states to the limit. Not everyone that comes into his care leaves his laboratory alive, and those who do tend to wish they hadn't.
